The final commission for the construction of Las Fronteras came in 1973, although construction did not begin until 1975 and was completed in 1977. In between these dates, Rafael Leoz passed away, so he was hardly able to see the final result of what was to be the first experimental work in social housing according to his theoretical criteria.

The main aim of this project was to experiment in all possible aspects, from construction, through economics, to the sociological and psychological aspects of the individual, the family and a grouping of families large enough to be able to test the behaviour of a community small enough to still preserve human ties.
